Guidelines for using CDCB marks when reproducing genetic evaluations provided by CDCB are available here along with image files.
The “Powered by CDCB” brand mark denotes the industry-wide collaboration that provides producers with reliable and independent genetic evaluations and services through the National Cooperator Database. The National Cooperator Database, stewarded by CDCB, houses producer-owned milk, management, ancestry, type, and genotypic data for use in genetic evaluations, national benchmarking, and research.
Producers and the industry can be confident in the results attached to the “Powered by CDCB” mark through the knowledge that CDCB methodology is validated by Interbull, functions in a pre-competitive space, and works on behalf of producers as a non-profit organization caring for the National Cooperator Database.
Powered by CDCB is an icon and phrase that signifies a global standard in evaluations within the dairy industry. It is farmer-owned data and industry collaborators that fuel the engine of the National Cooperator Database and result in services Powered by CDCB.
As this graphic demonstrates, the value of Powered by CDCB starts at the farm and grows through the industry programs and services that collect and transfer data into the National Cooperator Database before returning to the farm. This commitment from milk testing entities, dairy records processing centers, breed associations, the National Association of Animal Breeders, and genomic testing organizations to work together is what fuels CDCB’s services.
In turn, CDCB powers genetic evaluations, research, national performance metrics, and more in alignment with the USDA Animal Genomics and Improvement Laboratory. These services are then returned to producers through collaborating organizations, dairy media, farm management software and beyond. Through the use of the National Cooperator Database, CDCB produces nearly 50 individual selection traits utilized for genetic improvement on farms around the globe and four key indices – Lifetime Net Merit $, Cheese Merit $, Fluid Merit $, and Grazing Merit $.
The Corporate CDCB mark is used when promoting strategic partnerships with the Council on Dairy Cattle Breeding. Collaborators are encouraged to use this mark when CDCB is a research partner, an event sponsor, or a formal MOU exists between organizations. This mark should not be used to promote a service or a general certification.
The QTurn by CDCB mark denotes a genetic evaluation produced utilizing the Quick Turnaround service. Quick Turnaround evaluations are a snapshot of genomic predictions for traits of high importance as deemed by the genomic nominating organization providing the service to customers. The genetic information is not stored in the National Cooperator Database as the ancestry and animal information has not been verified. For the most reliable genetic evaluations, CDCB recommends utilizing services marked with Powered by CDCB.
More information about the QTurn service is available here.
