Lush Award Presented to USDA’s Liu

The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) honored George Liu as the 2022 recipient of the J. L. Lush Award in Animal Breeding, an honor sponsored annually by CDCB.

Dr. Liu is a Research Biologist with the Animal Genomics and Improvement Laboratory (AGIL) at United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Liu has been conducting fundamental genomics research to improve the health and production of cattle and small ruminants and methods for the genetic and genomic evaluation of economically important traits. After completing his PhD and postdoctoral training at Case Western Reserve University, he joined USDA in 2005. Liu has made contributions to the dairy industry by improving cattle and goat reference genome assemblies and developing tools and resources, including maps for copy number variation, DNA methylation, recombination, and genotype tissue expression or expression quantitative trait loci, to annotate livestock genomes and understand their functions.

The J. L. Lush Award was created in 1982 to recognize outstanding research in animal breeding. Learn more from ADSA.
