Jose Carrillo has served as CDCB Chief Data Officer since September 2020. He joined CDCB in July 2018 as Genomic Data Manager. Obtained doctorate in Veterinary Sciences in 1995 at the National University of Asunción, Paraguay. MBA obtained at the Polytechnic University of Cataluña, Spain (1998). Specialized mainly in livestock breeding and genetic improvements. University professor with10 years of experience. In 2007, joined the University of Maryland as a Faculty Research Assistant. Graduated as a MSc in Animal Science (Quantitative genetics and animal breeding) in 2011 and as a PhD (genomics and epigenomics) in 2016. Worked as a geneticist for PIC until August 2017.
Knowing an animal’s ancestry several generations back is certainly the goal for breeders; however, there are instances where animals have a gap in their pedigree. To fill in more pedigree gaps, CDCB is implementing a new solution starting in February 2023.
The genomic selection program for dairy cattle in the United States has doubled the rate of genetic gain.
The national cooperator database hit a new mark on February 19, 2022, with six million genotypes recorded.
